Tyrant

*Tyrant* primarily takes place in the fictional Middle Eastern country of Abbudin, which is ruled by an authoritarian dictator. The story begins when a self-exiled American doctor named Bassam Al-Fayeed returns to his homeland for a family wedding. The series explores the violent and turbulent political landscape of the fictional nation.

*Tyrant* was created by Israeli director and writer Gideon Raff and developed for American television by Howard Gordon and Craig Wright. Gordon and Raff previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed Showtime series *Homeland*. The show's creative team brought a distinct perspective to its portrayal of Middle Eastern politics.

FX canceled *Tyrant* in 2016 after three seasons, citing a combination of creative differences and the logistical challenges of filming. The production was largely based in Israel during its first two seasons, but due to regional conflicts, filming for the third season was moved to Spain. These complex logistics and shifting viewership ultimately led to its cancellation.

The main character, Bassam 'Barry' Al-Fayeed, is primarily played by British actor Adam Rayner. The series also stars Ashraf Barhom as his volatile brother, Jamal Al-Fayeed, and Jennifer Finnigan as Barry's American wife, Molly. Rayner's performance anchors the dramatic transition of his character from a passive doctor to a political leader.
