UGK - Ridin' Dirty

Ridin' Dirty is the third studio album by UGK (Underground Kingz), the duo of Bun B and Pimp C from Port Arthur, Texas. It was released in 1996 on Jive Records. The album became a defining record for Southern hip-hop despite having no official music video or radio single.

The album was produced largely by Pimp C himself, giving it a distinct, spare, funk-and-soul-sampled sound. His production style, characterized by deep bass and slow tempos, helped pioneer the signature Texas hip-hop drawl. The minimalistic beats perfectly complemented the duo's lyrical delivery.

Unlike many major label hip-hop releases of the 1990s, Ridin' Dirty featured absolutely no guest rappers. UGK relied entirely on the lyrical abilities of Bun B and Pimp C across the tracklist. The only featured artist on the entire album is singer Dave Moss, who provides vocals on one track.

Despite receiving little to no mainstream radio play, Ridin' Dirty sold hundreds of thousands of copies and reached the top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart. Its commercial success was driven entirely by word-of-mouth and the duo's loyal regional following in the South. It eventually certified gold and platinum in later years.
