The Vagrant Emperor (Anax ephippiger) is a migratory dragonfly of the family Aeshnidae, native to arid and semi-arid regions of Africa, the Middle East, and southern Asia. It is capable of sustained long-distance dispersal and appears irregularly as a vagrant in Europe, with records from as far north as Scandinavia and occasionally the Americas. Males bear a blue saddle-like marking on the upper abdomen. Adults breed in temporary pools and can complete larval development rapidly.
