description Villeroy & Boch Overview

Villeroy & Boch is a ceramics manufacturer whose origins the company dates to 1748, when François Boch and his three sons began making ceramic tableware in Audun-le-Tiche, Lorraine. The Villeroy and Boch businesses merged in 1836, and the company later developed products including tableware, sanitary ceramics, tiles, and architectural wares. Its historic Mettlach production is particularly associated with Phanolith, a translucent relief porcelain developed by modeller Jean-Baptiste Stahl around 1900.
