description Vishwaroopam Overview

Kamal Haasan writes, directs and stars in this 2013 Indian espionage thriller, filmed in Tamil and Hindi. His character initially appears to be Vishwanath, a Kathak dance teacher living in New York. When his wife, played by Pooja Kumar, arranges to investigate him, her suspicions open onto a concealed identity and a much more dangerous history: he is an operative of India's Research and Analysis Wing. Flashbacks connect his present circumstances with Afghanistan and Al-Qaeda operatives, gradually changing the meaning of his behavior at home.

The film moves between marital distrust and counterterrorism action, using the gap between an assumed persona and professional capability as a source of surprise. It suits viewers who enjoy undercover narratives with substantial action and revelations about an agent's past. Afghanistan and terrorism are central themes, presented through the heightened conventions of a commercial spy thriller.
