W. Brian Harland (1917–2003) was a British geologist based at Cambridge University who spent decades conducting fieldwork in Svalbard, the Arctic archipelago. He compiled extensive geological surveys of the region and worked on Precambrian stratigraphy. Harland is also associated with early advocacy for the 'Snowball Earth' concept, proposing that Earth experienced global glaciation events.
He founded the Cambridge Arctic Shelf Programme.
