Walking with Cavemen

The miniseries consists of four episodes that originally aired in 2003. It was co-produced by the BBC and the Discovery Channel. Each episode focuses on different stages of human evolution and the various hominin species that lived millions of years ago.

There are two different versions of the documentary, each with a different narrator. The original BBC version is presented and narrated by Robert Winston. The American version, released by the Discovery Channel, is instead narrated by actor Alec Baldwin.

Unlike Walking with Dinosaurs, which relied heavily on CGI, this series used a mix of live-action actors and practical prosthetics to recreate the ancient humans. Highly talented makeup artists and puppeteers were used to bring the extinct hominins to life. The actors portrayed the creatures in real-world environments.

The documentary showcases over a dozen extinct hominin species throughout its four episodes. It prominently features well-known ancestors like Australopithecus, Homo erectus, and Neanderthals. The show attempts to demonstrate the behavioral and anatomical changes that led to modern humans.
