description Washington Senators Overview

The Washington Senators were an American League baseball franchise based in Washington, D.C., that played from 1901 through 1960. Led by pitcher Walter Johnson and managed by Bucky Harris, the club won the 1924 American League pennant and defeated the New York Giants in the World Series, its championship in Washington. After the 1960 season, owner Calvin Griffith moved the franchise to Minnesota, where it began the 1961 season as the Minnesota Twins.
