description WEBTOON Overview
Vertical scrolling shapes the reading experience on WEBTOON, a digital comics platform available through mobile apps and the web. Episodes are commonly arranged as a continuous sequence of panels, making the format suited to smartphones and tablets. Its serialized stories include Korean webcomics and work from creators elsewhere, with romance and fantasy among the genres readers can explore. The platform combines WEBTOON Originals with CANVAS, its self-publishing section for independent creators.
This gives readers a way to follow established series while discovering work outside the professionally commissioned catalog. The episodic structure suits readers who enjoy returning to ongoing stories, while the scrolling layout allows pacing to be built around the space between panels.
help WEBTOON FAQ
What kinds of comics made WEBTOON famous?
WEBTOON is known for vertical-scroll digital comics such as Lore Olympus, Tower of God, True Beauty, and unOrdinary. The format is built for phone reading rather than traditional page turns.
Is WEBTOON the same as manga or manhwa?
WEBTOON includes many Korean manhwa and global webcomics, but the platform format is vertical scrolling and color-first. Manga is usually page-based and often black-and-white, especially in Japanese print releases.
Can creators publish directly on WEBTOON?
Yes. WEBTOON Canvas lets independent creators upload their own series, while WEBTOON Originals are contracted series promoted by the platform.
