description Werner Janensch Overview
Werner Janensch (1878–1969) was a German paleontologist best known for leading the German Tendaguru Expeditions in what is now Tanzania between 1909 and 1913. These expeditions recovered enormous quantities of Late Jurassic dinosaur fossils, including the holotype of Brachiosaurus brancai, which Janensch described in 1914. Much of the material is housed in Berlin's Museum für Naturkunde. Janensch also published extensively on the geology and paleontology of the Tendaguru Formation throughout his career.
