White-bellied Piculet

description White-bellied Piculet Overview

The White-bellied Piculet is a small South American woodpecker in the genus Picumnus. It occurs in the Guianas and in northern and eastern parts of Brazil, using forest and woodland habitats. The species is identified by its pale or white belly, which contrasts with the darker patterned plumage on the upper body. Carl Jakob Sundevall described it in 1866, and it forages mainly on small branches and other surfaces for insects.
