William A. Lyon was an American film editor whose career was closely associated with Columbia Pictures during the classical Hollywood studio era. He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Fred Zinnemann's From Here to Eternity (1953), a drama set around the military community at Pearl Harbor before the United States entered World War II. Lyon's credit identifies him with studio-era narrative editing and with a significant editing award for a 1950s American film.
