William McKie

description William McKie Overview

Sir William McKie was an Australian-born organist and composer who became Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey. Appointed to the Abbey in 1941, he took up the post after wartime service and held it until 1963. He directed the music for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and also arranged music for the 1947 wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, so he is central to studies of British ceremonial and church music.
