Williams Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Released by Williams in 1991, the machine is historically significant for being among the very first pinball machines to feature a dot-matrix display (DMD). This technological leap allowed for fully animated sequences and much more complex scoring rules than older alphanumeric displays.

The machine was designed by legendary pinball designer Steve Ritchie, alongside a team that included software programmer Dwight Sullivan. Based on the massive 1991 James Cameron blockbuster, it became one of the best-selling and most beloved pinball tables of the modern era.

The machine features a unique plunger handle shaped like a gun grip, which players use to launch the ball and shoot specific targets during gameplay modes. It also features a motorized, moving endoskeleton skull on the playfield that physically tracks the pinball during the famous multiball chase sequence.

To start multiball, players must shoot the left and right ramps to light the lock, and then hit the center stand-up target to physically lock the balls in the mechanism. Once locked, hitting the specific launch shot will release the balls, initiating a chaotic mode accompanied by voice clips from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
