description Yad Vashem Overview
Located in Jerusalem, Yad Vashem is Israel's official memorial institution for the Holocaust and the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. Its work preserves the memory of Jewish victims while documenting their lives and the persecution they endured. Collections of artifacts and documents, together with recorded testimonies, provide evidence that connects the history of the Holocaust with individual experiences. Remembrance is joined by education and research, giving the institution a role beyond the presentation of museum exhibits.
Historians can study its records, and educators and students can use its resources to examine how the Holocaust unfolded and affected communities. The center also serves visitors seeking a place for reflection. Its defining focus is Holocaust remembrance and documentation, with personal histories helping explain events whose scale can otherwise obscure the people involved.
