Yasaka Shrine, historically known as Gion Shrine, is a Shinto shrine located in the Gion district of Kyoto, Japan. Originally founded in 656 CE, it is dedicated to the storm god Susanoo no Mikoto and his consort Kushiinadahime. The shrine features a prominent main hall with a large veranda and a unique roof structure that covers the dance stage. It is best known as the central venue for the Gion Matsuri, a major summer festival featuring elaborate floats that has been held annually since the Heian period.
