Yokkaichi is a city in Mie Prefecture, Japan, on the eastern side of Ise Bay. It is an important industrial center, particularly known for petrochemical manufacturing and for the large industrial complex established along its waterfront. Rapid postwar industrialization brought economic growth but also severe air pollution, including the pollution-related illness known as Yokkaichi asthma.
