Yves Lacoste is a French geographer known for helping reestablish geopolitics as a field of public and academic analysis in France. He founded the journal Hérodote in 1976 and argued that geographical knowledge is closely connected to political strategy, territorial conflict, and the exercise of power. His work examines how states and other actors represent and control space, and it is studied by readers of political geography, strategic studies, and critical geopolitics.
