description Zatch Bell! Overview

Takamine Kiyomaro, a depressed don't-care-about-the-world guy, was suddenly given a little demon named Gash Bell to take care of. Little does he know that Gash is embroiled into an intense fight to see who is the ruler of the demon world. All of the demons have to pick a master on Earth and duke it out with other demons until one survives. Needless to say, Kiyomaro becomes Gash's master, and through their many battles, Kiyomaro learns the importance of friendship and courage.

help Zatch Bell! FAQ

How does the Mamodo battle work in Zatch Bell!?

Each Mamodo is paired with a human who can read spells from that Mamodo's colored book. Burning an opponent's book sends that Mamodo back to the Mamodo world, and the last remaining contestant becomes king.

Why can Kiyo Takamine read Zatch's spell book?

Kiyo is Zatch's designated human partner, and his emotions help unlock and power the book's lightning spells. Their first major attack, Zaker, fires electricity from Zatch's mouth when Kiyo reads the incantation.

Does the 150-episode Zatch Bell! anime finish the Mamodo King tournament?

No, Toei Animation's series ran from 2003 to 2006 but ended before adapting the manga's complete final battle. The later anime material also diverges from Makoto Raiku's manga, so the print version is needed for the original ending.

Is Zatch Bell! 2 a continuation of the anime?

Zatch Bell! 2 is Makoto Raiku's manga sequel, not a direct second television season. It returns to Zatch, Kiyo, and the Mamodo world after the completed events of the original manga, which extend beyond the anime's ending.
