Levi's Type III Trucker Jacket

Look for two pointed chest pockets, vertical seams, and V-shaped stitching running from the pockets toward the waistband. The shorter, more fitted body distinguishes it from the boxier Type I and Type II jackets.

Levi Strauss & Co. introduced the jacket in 1967 as the successor to its Type II denim jacket. Later versions added hand-warmer pockets, but early examples generally had only the two chest pockets.

The familiar modern Trucker Jacket is based on the Type III pattern, but Levi's has produced numerous altered fits, fabrics, linings, and pocket configurations. Collectors therefore use labels, care tags, pocket details, and production features to identify a specific version.

Unsanforized denim can shrink noticeably after soaking or washing, while most modern pre-shrunk versions change much less. The care label is the safest guide because Levi's has sold the Type III pattern in many different denim treatments.
