Scott Shikora

Scott Shikora served as president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the largest professional organization dedicated to obesity surgery in the United States. He has also held surgical leadership positions at multiple academic medical centers, including roles as chief of bariatric and general surgery.

Shikora is recognized for advancing laparoscopic approaches to bariatric procedures, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, which are now the two most commonly performed weight-loss surgeries worldwide. He has published extensively on perioperative care, complication management, and surgical technique refinements in obesity surgery.

Shikora has held academic surgical appointments at several major US medical centers, including Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Brigham and Women's Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. His career has spanned both clinical practice and leadership roles in metropolitan Boston hospital systems.

Shikora has served as a consultant and clinical investigator for companies producing surgical staplers and other instruments used in bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery. He has authored studies evaluating the safety and performance of these devices in peer-reviewed surgical journals.
