The Big Sky

description The Big Sky Overview

The Big Sky is a 1952 American Western directed by Howard Hawks and adapted from A. B. Guthrie Jr.'s novel. Kirk Douglas and Dewey Martin star as frontiersmen who join a keelboat expedition carrying goods up the Missouri River into Blackfoot territory during the nineteenth-century fur trade.

Rather than centering on a conventional town conflict, the film emphasizes river travel, commercial rivalry, intercultural contact, and companionship among the expedition's crew.
