Stump Puffball

description Stump Puffball Overview

Lycoperdon pyriforme, now also treated under the name Apioperdon pyriforme, is commonly called the stump puffball. It produces pear-shaped puffballs, often in clusters, on decaying wood, buried timber, or old stumps rather than directly on ordinary soil. Young specimens have a firm, pale interior and have been eaten in some traditions, but puffballs should be collected only when their internal structure is clearly identified.
