Millennium Star Atlas (Sinnott & Perryman)

The "Millennium Star Atlas" utilized highly precise data gathered by the European Space Agency's Hipparcos satellite. This allowed the atlas to feature incredibly accurate stellar positions and brightness measurements.

Compiled by Roger Sinnott and Michael Perryman, the atlas provides detailed maps of over one million stars. It was the first sky atlas to map such a massive volume of stars down to 11th magnitude.

The "Millennium Star Atlas" was published in 1997 as a comprehensive, three-volume print set. It was designed to make the complex scientific data from the Hipparcos mission accessible to serious astronomers.

While modern digital planetarium software has largely superseded printed atlases for daily field use, the "Millennium Star Atlas" remains a valuable historical reference. Its monumental scale makes it a prized collector's item for astronomy enthusiasts.
