Holst's Frog

description Holst's Frog Overview

Holst's Frog (Babina holsti) is a large frog species endemic to Okinawa Island in Japan's Ryukyu Archipelago. It inhabits clear, rocky mountain streams and the surrounding broadleaf forests. As one of the largest native frogs in Japan, it is recognizable by its robust body and long hind legs. The species is currently classified as vulnerable by the IUCN due to significant population declines caused by habitat degradation and the introduction of invasive predators such as the small Indian mongoose.
