Bonaventure was a thirteenth-century Franciscan friar, theologian, cardinal, and minister general of the Franciscan Order who died during the Second Council of Lyon in 1274. Canonized in 1482 and later declared a Doctor of the Church, he is known for works combining scholastic reasoning with mystical theology. Relics attributed to him have been dispersed, with some preserved at Bagnoregio, his birthplace in central Italy.
