Necropolis of San Giuliano

The Necropolis of San Giuliano is located at Barbarano Romano in the Lazio region of Italy, north of Rome. The site is part of the larger San Giuliano archaeological area, which includes both Etruscan tombs and the remains of a medieval settlement.

The so-called Queen's Tomb (Tomba della Regina) is a notable Etruscan chamber tomb carved into rock with a large, imposing facade. Despite its name, the identity and status of those buried there remain uncertain, and the designation is a traditional one.

The Necropolis of San Giuliano was used from approximately the 7th century BC through the 3rd century BC, spanning several centuries of Etruscan burial practice. It encompasses multiple tomb types reflecting changes in funerary architecture over that period.

The San Giuliano archaeological area, including the necropolis, is open to visitors as part of a regional park. The site includes both Etruscan tombs and the later medieval settlement of San Giuliano built on the plateau above the burial areas.
