Wilton Felder

description Wilton Felder Overview

Wilton Felder (1940-2015) was an American jazz saxophonist and bassist who gained prominence as a founding member of the Jazz Crusaders, later known simply as The Crusaders. Born in Houston, Texas, Felder helped develop a distinctive sound that blended hard bop jazz with R&B and soul elements, contributing to the soul-jazz movement of the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to his work with The Crusaders, Felder maintained a solo career and worked as a session musician, playing bass on notable recordings including several Jackson 5 hits. His dual proficiency on tenor saxophone and electric bass made him a versatile figure in jazz and popular music for over five decades.
