description Clonezilla Overview

Clonezilla is a powerful, open-source disk cloning and imaging software. It's primarily used for creating backups of entire disks or partitions, allowing for quick and easy restoration. While it's command-line driven, its efficiency and flexibility make it a favorite among IT professionals. Clonezilla is a cost-effective solution for creating system recovery images and deploying operating systems.

help Clonezilla FAQ

Can Clonezilla copy a Windows system drive to a new SSD?

Yes. Clonezilla Live can perform disk-to-disk cloning or save the Windows drive as an image, with support for NTFS and common EFI system partitions.

Can I run Clonezilla while Windows is still running?

No, Clonezilla does not perform normal online imaging of a mounted system partition. You usually boot Clonezilla Live from a USB drive so the Windows partitions can remain unmounted.

Can Clonezilla restore one file from a disk image?

Not through its normal restore workflow. Clonezilla images are designed for partition or whole-disk recovery, and the project lists direct single-file recovery as a limitation.

What is the difference between Clonezilla Live and Clonezilla SE?

Clonezilla Live is intended for backing up or restoring one computer from bootable media. Clonezilla SE works with DRBL and multicast for network deployment, with the project reporting support for cloning more than 40 machines simultaneously.
