Why use a BeagleBone Black instead of a Raspberry Pi for hardware control?
The BeagleBone Black exposes extensive GPIO and includes two Programmable Real-Time Units for deterministic, time-sensitive tasks. Those PRUs make it useful for motor control and industrial interfaces that are awkward under ordinary Linux timing.
Can the BeagleBone Black run Home Assistant?
Home Assistant can be installed through a supported Linux environment or containers, but the board is not a current plug-and-play Home Assistant appliance. Home Assistant Yellow uses a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and includes dedicated smart-home hardware.
What processor and memory does the BeagleBone Black have?
The standard board uses a 1 GHz Texas Instruments Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processor with 512 MB of DDR3 memory. That is sufficient for embedded control but limited for modern dashboards, databases and add-ons.
Does the BeagleBone Black include Zigbee or Thread radio hardware?
