Venini Fazzoletto Vase

The Fazzoletto Vase was co-designed by the Italian designer Fulvio Bianconi and glassworks founder Paolo Venini. Introduced in Venice around 1948, the vase became a defining object of postwar Italian design.

The vase is famous for its handkerchief-shaped silhouette, featuring undulating, asymmetrical folds that flare outward. The design was intentionally created to look like a piece of soft fabric caught mid-motion.

Each vase is hand-blown on the island of Murano using traditional Italian glassmaking techniques. Craftsmen literally pinch and pull the hot glass at the rim to create the distinct, crumpled "fazzoletto" (handkerchief) ripples.

The Fazzoletto Vase was famously produced using Venini's proprietary "Sommerso" technique, where contrasting colors are layered within the glass. They were available in bold, modern colors like bright red, yellow, and striking blue.
