Laurence O'Shaughnessy was a British surgeon whose experimental work explored ways to improve the blood supply to heart muscle affected by coronary disease. During the 1930s, he investigated myocardial revascularization by encouraging vascularized tissue to adhere to the heart, an approach developed before modern coronary bypass surgery. He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps and was killed in 1940 during the Dunkirk evacuation.
