description Into the Water Overview

Into the Water is a 2017 psychological thriller by British author Paula Hawkins. It is set in Beckford, an English town where Nel Abbott is found dead in a river pool known as the Drowning Pool, a place associated with earlier deaths of women. Nel's sister Jules returns to the town and becomes involved in the investigation while trying to protect Nel's teenage daughter, Lena. The novel uses multiple viewpoints to examine memory, suspicion, family conflict, and the stories communities preserve about violent deaths.
