Ahmed Al-trabulsi - Rewayat Qalon A'n Nafi' - Murattal

Qalon 'an Nafi' is one of the seven canonical readings (qira'at) of the Quran, transmitted by the reciter Qalon from his teacher Nafi'. It is historically rooted in Medina, where Nafi' led recitation in the Prophet's Mosque.

Nafi' al-Madani was the leading Quran reciter of Medina in the 8th century and died in 785 CE. Two of his students, Qalon and Warsh, transmitted his reading, and both transmissions remain canonical today.

Murattal denotes a measured, moderately paced style of recitation that observes tajweed rules without the extended melisma of the mujawwad style. It is the standard mode for teaching, memorization and study, which is what Ahmed Al-Trabulsi uses in this recording.

The Qalon transmission from Nafi' has historically been recited in parts of North Africa, reportedly including Libya. The closely related Warsh transmission, also from Nafi', became the dominant reading across much of the wider Maghreb.
