help Rawley Point Lighthouse FAQ

Where is Rawley Point Lighthouse?

It is at Point Beach State Forest on Lake Michigan, about four miles north of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The site is also called Twin River Point or Two Rivers Point.

When was the current Rawley Point tower built?

The brick lighthouse station was first lit on December 7, 1874, and the present steel tower was installed in 1894. The replacement used an erector-style tower that had originally stood on the Chicago River.

How far can Rawley Point's light be seen?

The steel tower rises 113 feet above the lake, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says its light can be seen up to 19 miles away. It operates from about half an hour before sunset to half an hour after sunrise.

Can you go inside Rawley Point Lighthouse?

The lighthouse is operated by the United States Coast Guard and is normally viewed and photographed from the beach rather than toured inside. Its history is tied to the 1887 wreck of the steamer Vernon, which killed 36 crew members and passengers.
