The Little Friend is Donna Tartt's second novel, published in 2002. Set in Mississippi in the early 1970s, it follows Harriet Cleve Dufresnes as she becomes preoccupied with the unexplained death of her nine-year-old brother Robin, who died in 1964. The novel examines the effects of that loss on Harriet, her extended family, and the social world around them.
