Torre dell'Aquila Frescos / Cycle of the Months (Trento)

The frescoes are located in the Torre dell'Aquila (Eagle Tower) within the Buonconsiglio Castle complex in Trento, in the Trentino region of northern Italy. Buonconsiglio Castle was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trent. The castle is now a museum open to the public and is one of the most important secular historic monuments in the region.

The frescoes were painted around the turn of the 15th century, generally dated to the late 1390s or early 1400s, under the patronage of Prince-Bishop George of Lichtenstein. They represent one of the finest surviving examples of International Gothic secular mural painting. The cycle was partially damaged over the centuries, and some months are missing or only fragmentary.

Each fresco illustrates the activities, clothing, architecture, and landscapes associated with a different month of the year, blending aristocratic leisure (hawking, feasting, courtship) with agricultural labor. The paintings provide rich documentary evidence of late medieval daily life, costume, and castle architecture.
