Midtown Tunnel is a road tunnel beneath the Elizabeth River connecting Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia. The original two-lane tunnel opened in 1962 as the second underwater crossing between the cities and carried Route 58 traffic in both directions; a parallel two-lane tunnel opened in 2016, allowing the original facility to operate eastbound and the newer one westbound. It serves regional traffic in Hampton Roads.
