Kingdom of Mysore

The Kingdom of Mysore was traditionally founded in 1399 in southern India. For much of its history, the state was ruled by the Wadiyar dynasty, though power later shifted to military leaders.

In the mid-18th century, Hyder Ali, a military leader, seized control of the kingdom from the Wadiyar dynasty. He vastly expanded Mysore's territory and built a powerful, modernized army.

The early Kingdom of Mysore emerged from the political landscape surrounding the declining Vijayanagara Empire. As Vijayanagara weakened, Mysore gained greater autonomy in the southern region of India.

Yes, under Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, Mysore fought a series of four wars against the British East India Company. These conflicts, known as the Anglo-Mysore Wars, ultimately ended with the defeat and death of Tipu Sultan in 1799.
