Relics of St. Swithun (Winchester)

description Relics of St. Swithun (Winchester) Overview

Saint Swithun was a ninth-century bishop of Winchester whose posthumous cult became centered on Winchester Cathedral. His remains were ceremonially translated to a shrine inside the Old Minster in 971, an event that helped establish Winchester as a major medieval pilgrimage destination.
