help Fantom Drives GreenDrive3 FAQ
Does the Fantom Drives GreenDrive3 need an external power adapter?
No. As a 2.5-inch portable drive, it draws its power directly from the USB connection, so a single USB 3.0 cable handles both data and power. There is no separate AC adapter to carry.
Is the GreenDrive3 an SSD or a hard drive?
It is a traditional mechanical hard drive housed in a 2.5-inch enclosure. Because USB 3.0 is faster than the spinning disk inside, real-world transfers typically top out around 100-120 MB/s, well below what a portable SSD achieves.
Does the GreenDrive3 work with Macs?
Yes, the drive itself works with macOS, but it typically ships preformatted as NTFS for Windows, which macOS can only read. For full read/write use on a Mac, you should reformat it in Disk Utility to APFS or Mac OS Extended.
Can I use the GreenDrive3 with a PS4 or PS5?
Yes, its USB 3.0 connection meets the consoles' external storage requirements. On PS4 and PS5 it can store and play PS4 games directly, while PS5 titles must be moved to the console's internal SSD to run.
