description Honda Legend Overview
help Honda Legend FAQ
Is the Honda Legend the same car as the Acura RLX?
Essentially yes — the current-generation Legend is Honda's Japan-market flagship and shares its platform and 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain with the Acura RLX sold in North America. The RLX was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2020 model year, leaving the Legend as a Japan-only model.
Did the Honda Legend really get approved for Level 3 autonomous driving?
Yes. In March 2021, Japan's transport ministry certified the Honda Legend Hybrid EX with Honda Sensing Elite as the world's first production car approved for SAE Level 3 autonomy, using its Traffic Jam Pilot feature. Honda offered it in a very limited lease program of about 100 units in Japan.
What engine and drivetrain does the Honda Legend use?
It uses a 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 paired with Honda's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system, which adds three electric motors for combined output of roughly 380 horsepower. The rear axle is driven by twin motors that also torque-vector for sharper handling.
Is Honda still making the Legend?
No — production of the Legend ended in 2021, closing out a nameplate that began in 1985. The original Legend was significant as the launch model for Honda's Acura brand in North America in 1986.
