help Hupetina FAQ
What kind of trilobite was Hupetina?
Hupetina was an extinct early Cambrian trilobite genus generally placed in the family Bigotinidae within Ptychopariida. Its type species is Hupetina antiqua.
Where was Hupetina antiqua found?
Hupetina antiqua is known from lowermost Cambrian strata in Morocco. It occurs in early trilobite faunas that document the early diversification of trilobites.
What did the head of Hupetina look like?
The cephalon was strongly developed and is an important part of the genus description. Paleontologists compare its outline, glabella, facial sutures, and other head features with related bigotinids.
When did Hupetina live?
Hupetina lived during the early Cambrian, close to the first major appearances of trilobites in the fossil record. Its Moroccan fossils come from very early Cambrian marine rocks.
