help Lost Universe FAQ
Is Lost Universe connected to Slayers?
Yes — both come from novelist Hajime Kanzaka, and Lost Universe is treated as a sister series sharing his comedic space-fantasy sensibility. Canal, the ship's holographic AI, plays a Lina-Inverse-adjacent role opposite Kane and Millie.
How many episodes is Lost Universe and when did it air?
The TV series ran 26 episodes in 1998. ADV Films brought it to North American home video in the early 2000s.
What's the infamous 'Yashigani' episode people mention?
Episode 4 was so notoriously rough in its animation quality that it became legend, and 'yashigani' turned into fan slang for badly outsourced animation. The rest of the series does not look that broken, which is why the episode stands out.
Where can I legally watch Lost Universe now?
Its licensing has drifted since the ADV Films DVD era, and streaming availability has been spotty across regions in recent years. Check current catalogs on the major platforms, since older 1990s licenses move around frequently.
