Monster Chess

description Monster Chess Overview

Monster Chess, also called Super King, is an asymmetric chess variant in which one side controls a king and a small number of pawns while the other side controls a standard chess army. To offset the material imbalance, the lone king may make two consecutive moves during its turn. The variant is designed as a handicap game, with the stronger side attempting to checkmate the enhanced king before it can exploit its extra movement.

help Monster Chess FAQ

What is Monster Chess?

Monster Chess, also called Super King, is an asymmetric chess variant. One player controls a king and a small number of pawns while the other controls a standard chess army.

How does the weaker side compensate in Monster Chess?

The lone king may make two consecutive moves during its turn. This special movement rule offsets the large material advantage held by the opposing standard army.

Why is Monster Chess called asymmetric?

The two players begin with very different forces. One side has a king and a few pawns, while the other has the normal chess army.

Is Monster Chess the same as standard chess?

No. Its two-army setup and the lone king's two-move turn change the balance and tactics substantially.
