help Pho at Pho Thin FAQ

What makes pho at Pho Thin different from other bowls in Hanoi?

Pho Thin on Lò Đúc street is famous for its 'tái lăn' technique, where the rare beef is flash-tossed in a screaming-hot wok before it goes into the bowl. That extra step gives the meat a smoky, seared character you won't get from the usual raw-beef-dropped-in-broth method.

Where is Pho Thin located, and when should I go to avoid the longest wait?

The storied original sits on Lò Đúc street in Hanoi, in the Hai Bà Trưng district. It's busiest from early morning through the lunch rush, and seating is communal with quick turnover, so arriving off-peak gets you fed fastest.

Is the Pho Thin on Lò Đúc the original, or are there imitators?

The shop on Lò Đúc, operating since around 1979, is the one with the long-standing reputation, and its fame has spawned plenty of similarly named 'Phở Thin' signs around Hanoi and abroad. If you want the original experience, navigate specifically to the Lò Đúc address.
