help Pro-Ject Phono Box D FAQ
What is the Pro-Ject Phono Box D?
The Pro-Ject Phono Box D is a standalone phono preamplifier, not a complete turntable system. It boosts the very small signal from a turntable cartridge so it can connect to a line-level amplifier or powered speakers.
Does the Pro-Ject Phono Box D include a turntable?
No. A turntable, cartridge, amplifier, and cables must be supplied separately. The unit's job is to provide phono amplification and cartridge matching within a wider vinyl setup.
What cartridge types can the Phono Box D support?
The Phono Box D is designed to work with both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, with selectable loading and gain options depending on the version. The correct setting should match the cartridge manufacturer's specifications.
Why would a turntable need a Pro-Ject Phono Box D?
A turntable without a built-in phono stage produces a signal that is too weak for a normal line input. The Phono Box D supplies the needed gain and equalization before the signal reaches an amplifier.
