help Runge Prairie FAQ
Is Runge Prairie an original piece of Missouri tallgrass or a restoration?
The Missouri Prairie Foundation classifies Runge Prairie as a restoration or reconstruction, not one of its original prairie remnants. Its conservation story is therefore about rebuilding native grassland structure and plant diversity. [Missouri Prairie Foundation](https://moprairie.org/where-we-work/)
Who is Runge Prairie named after?
The tract honors Andy Runge, a former Missouri Conservation Commissioner and Missouri Prairie Foundation board president. It is part of the foundation's Missouri prairie protection work. [Runge Prairie reference](https://moprairie.org/project/runge-prairie/)
How is Runge Prairie managed for habitat?
The Missouri Prairie Foundation says it manages prairie properties with periodic prescribed fire and invasive plant control, including removing trees and brush where needed. Those tools help keep woody growth and plants such as tall fescue from replacing native grassland. [Missouri Prairie Foundation](https://moprairie.org/where-we-work/)
Can people visit Runge Prairie for hiking or birdwatching?
The foundation says its prairies are open to the public for foot access, hiking, birdwatching, nature photography, and nature viewing unless a property page says otherwise. Other uses require written permission, so visitors should check access rules before bringing vehicles or collecting anything. [Missouri Prairie Foundation](https://moprairie.org/where-we-work/)
