122 Gerda is a main-belt asteroid discovered in 1872 by German-American astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters. It was named after Gerðr, also written Gerd, a figure in Norse mythology associated with the god Freyr. The asteroid travels around the Sun in the region between Mars and Jupiter, together with most known main-belt asteroids. It is classified as an S-type object, indicating a stony composition and a relatively reflective surface.
