142 Polana

description 142 Polana Overview

142 Polana is a dark, low-albedo asteroid in the inner main asteroid belt. Johann Palisa discovered it in 1875 at the Austrian Naval Observatory, and the name refers to Pola, now Pula, in Croatia. It is classified as F-type in the Tholen system and B-type in the SMASS system, and it serves as the parent asteroid of the New Polana family, a primitive family whose members occupy similar orbits and may include sources of some near-Earth asteroids.
